This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Panzer IV Ausf.F2

It seems like there needs to be another German military vehicle project on this site in order to make it fair fight, so I've opted for the Panzer IV Ausf.F2 WWII tank. I don't know terribly much about WWII, but according to wikipedia, it was a fairly commonly used tank: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzer_IV

I'm definitely looking forward to the challenge this summer.

Cool. A fairly decent site dedicated to WWII. Not so much technical references but lots of original photographs. (Warning. The photos in some sections are pretty graphic)

Lol... I'm working on it as we speak. Just setting up ref planes. Got some really good refs thanks to you guys. Like I said, I'm not going to be blazing through it since I've got other schoolwork to do, but keep getting on my case and it will progress.

Edit: There ya go. Using Maya 2013... it's not too different so far. Some strange viewport issues, but it could be user error.

Damn Dave, don't do the whole thing for him! All he has left now is to add a barrel and tracks!!!user added image

Yeah, I tried a cylinder for the barrel and that looked good, but then I tried a torus for the tracks, and that was garbage. The helix was no good either. Help dave.

Okay, question about modelling with ref images. Default viewport gives pretty blurry textures for my ref blueprints. High quality gives nice crisp lines. I can't use xray shading mode with high quality, so I have to go back and forth. Furthermore, there's a very slight shift in the actual blueprints when I switch viewport modes. Any thoughts?

Ideally I want xray mode and crisp blueprints. Or even wireframe and blueprints still visible.

If you put the parts you want wire mode in a layer right click(on layer) and go down to "set sellected layer" to unshaded.............dave

Edit:I found out about that from David new free tut
Edit:If you are getting flickering try turning of "fast interaction" pref/display
