Mystery Model

I picked up a free model from the internet and now for the life of me I can't get it to render. I tried several basic materials.... lambert, blinn, etc. I check the object's visibility and possible hidden attributes. I even duplicated the object deleted its history and it still will not render.
There is however an anomaly that shows up on the right click pop-up menu. There's a selection for painting skin weights. Not sure what that's about. This mystery model has gotten me baffled. user added image

If that doesn't work, share the linky link or even your scene file.

That actually worked. But I don't see why it didn't show up the first time I rendered it when it was showing as polygon object and it had a regular lambert texture.

Thanks for the help.
