Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Discrete Scale/Flip problem

Hi guy, was wondering if anyone could help me understand what I've done wrong.

The problem is when I discrete scale anything in component mode, it sort of flips the objects around in ways I don't understand. I've tried adjusting the 'relative' and 'step size' but neither have any effect. Check the image I posted below to see what happens when I scale it.

Discrete scale also works fine in object mode for me, it's just component mode.

What's your step size? Is it a lot less than one?

I've tried it numerous scale sizes, namely
'1'
'.5'
'.1'
'.01'

All of these have the same effect.

When I extrude and scale it too, it turns out that the new face is twisted around 360. very odd.

That's very strange, I just tried out the discrete scale on components, and it works fine for me.

I just tried it on an older version (2013) and it had the same result. So I that might eliminate the possibility of any badly configured settings. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong?

I turn on discrete in the scale settings panel, and set the increments. Then I scale a face on the x/y axis and it has the same result every time. This is very frustrating.

It's a very strange problem, so I understand people not responding. I just want to bump this up though as I'm really having no luck with it. If anyone has any ideas, or has experienced a similar problem then let me know.

I tried it and am getting the same in 2013. Strange as it only happens when scaling a single face. Rotate and move is fine. Will try it with 2014 when I get home.

I checked the normals, but they're fine. I reset the different scale tools and made sure snapping is off, but still no avail.

At least someone else experiences the same things. Maybe if anyone else reading this, they could try it too. See if you can discrete scale a face. Doesn't matter what the increments are. Report back you're results.
