Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Ultimate World Texture

I just stumbled upon this yesterday. It is truly the Ultimate World Texture.

Taken by NASA(US Space Program for those who dont know it) by thousands of satellites. Not sure how long it took to string together but its amazing. On the highest version (not sure if its on the website) each pixel of the image is equvilent to 1 kilometer. So if you are lucky you can see your home town.

You can download the land surface, oceans, sea ice, and cloud images and layer them in a shader to create an extremely realistic Earth.

Check it out here: Earth's Observatory

There's another great site with textures for planets, can't remember what it is but i'll have a look around.

I've got a few earth maps here that are 10800 x 5400

I was trying to look for the super high resolution because I want to find my town but i also have the same problem with downloading the high rez.

I haven't had time to attually render an image with the texture yet. So if anyone wants to go head and lets see it

Yeah that's a cool site that i found a while back too. user added image

It's pretty sweet.

I liked it so much that i used the night lights picture to create one of my own 2d images.

What do you think?
