graphic cards... Worth all that money?

Now i have a (when i bought it) fancy winfast GeForce2 Titanium time to change i told myself a month ago...
So i bought a (i tought) fancyer Soundblaster GeForce5 5200 for 105 €, plugged it and installed latest nvidia drivers

CRAP!

The 3Dmark was more or less the same and i didnt noticed all that wonderfull per vertex shaders and stufff. Even the fairy demo wont run, it just changed screen modes and then hanged!

In maya the Cg Shaders looked the same as normal hardware shaders and it allowed me to move more or less the same polycount at the same speed...(350000 at 4fps)

Thank god in that shop they return your money if youre not happy with the stuff you bought.

So the question is: Is it worth the time (and money if i finally conserve it or possible drivers conflicts if i finally return to the Gef2Ti...) to try a Radeon 9700 Pro For 490€?.
Will i notice a great change?
Will i throw my money by the window?
Im confused, al those graphic cards guys promise you so much, and bill you equally, and then...

There is your problem... the 5200 are crap... stick a 5900 Ultra in your pc and then see if there is a difference user added image

Don't get the ATI card. It's not good for Maya. Depends on what you do with maya but you could get something like GeForce TI4800 128Mb card. Very cheap right now.

Adl where the hell have you been? There are peoples life at stake...head to the therapy corner :-)

Kevin, what the hell are you talking about? I upgraded from Geforce 2 gts to Geforce 4 4800. The difference is huge, now I'm playing games with quincunx antialiasing, max detail.
(except for generals, once you get a lot of buildings/units on a map, it's hellaslow but that's normal. the game is insane in geometry)

Going from a GF2 GTS to a Radeon 9700 I must say that performance is approx. 4 times faster, sometimes more. It is a huge difference and programmable shaders are the future so I would not buy a non DX9 compatible card.
