Default Dynamic 3d text fields??

Can anybode tell me how to make dynamic text in 3d. It is so often used in music videos and I love it.

I would like to create i.e. a text which dynamicly displays the distance of two points. But I want to render this.

In maya I only could creat a static text, but is there any chance to change it dynamically or in an animation?

Or should I do this in an other program?
Sorry for the bad Englich, I'm from Germany... =)

to show the effect goto
in the video at 0:33 the text fields...

Perhaps somebody could help me with my problem... please ....

That was likely not done "dynamically", but rather done by creating movies of the text fields and mapping them on to a plane.
