Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Bah! This hasn't been one of my best days. I started modelling the turbines and was pretty happy with the result but my pc locked up and i had tp re-start without saving. Bummer. I've made 2 more attempts after that on the turbs but scratched them both because I wasn't happy with them.
These aren't really updates. Made some adjustments on the model. Coloured some bits in black so its easier to see the detail. Also a wireframe.

dvnobles: Hoses and wires are easy. I made a curve that was in the exact shape i wanted the wire to be. Then using the circle curve I simply extruded it. Easy

Hopefully Ill get someting done now....

Started on the actual body of the ship. Not really sure about it though. Curious of your opinion user added image

Another update. Does ANYONE has any crits?
Some pics...btw I know that the normals aren't smoothed. I'm 'planning on smoothing them out later.

don't smooth them. this type of geometry will look better texturedunsmoothed. as for crits:
i don't know what the scale of your scene will be. but i think the ship lacks volume. u can mess with the proportions a bit more.
make the front bigger and rear different.
what i mean is that everything ssems to be duplicated to the other side. they are excatly the same. maybe add some variation

You know what...
You could use it as the bridge.. So that the main ship is... Around...
20 times bigger... :O

vladimirjp: I know exactly what you mean. I am following a blueprint but it does not look right. I'll add some variations.

vladimirjp what if i just add more little details? Will it help with the volume. I've never modelled anything that's supposed to have a very massive feel about it so I dont know.

I have never modeled anything massive but from what ive seen it is the details that do it. Maybe some small panels all over would do it?

Haha...yeee

Actually the onlt dense bit is the body because that's sub-d converted to polygons on level 2. The rest is simple geometry.

OK. I don't like this one. I'm starting from scratch again.
