Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world

user added image

This tutorial at its core is an introduction to modelling real-world objects. Having issues with your modelling? Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar, then our course will take you through the fundamental techniques needed to speed up, improve, and optimise your workflow.

Over the next 5 hours, we'll create a library of reusable assets for your set design or interior projects. Starting with ordinary household objects to showcase a wide variety of modelling techniques, you'll learn how and when to use polygons, NURBS, and curves. We focus on good topology, accurate modelling, and speed.

You'll also learn how to match a camera to a real-world photograph, and create rooms scaled to the correct size. How best to use reference images alongside photographs to check and improve your modelling. We'll even show you some quick ways to UV.

By the end of this course, you will have an understanding of all the core modelling concepts in Maya, along with how to set up scenes and match reference. Going forward this will help you become a better artist in Maya.
