In this project we cover the complete process of rigging a character in Maya and getting it posed and ready for animation. We use the low poly man which was created during the modeling tutorials, but the scene files are included with this project if you are only interested in how to rig a character model.
We start of with the topic of bones and create a complete skeleton for our low poly model and you'll learn how to paint weights during the rigging process to allow for smooth deformations of your geometry when a character is animated.
To get movement in the legs we create IK Handles and we also add animation Hand and Foot Controls by using Locators and Set Driven Keys.
In the final parts of this tutorial we go over how to create Blend Shapes and Face Controls for the head which allows for movement in this region and animation of facial expressions on a character.
This tutorial series starts with Low Poly Modeling for Games if you are interested in following the complete series.
