A lot of research goes into Pixar films. The studio is famous for bringing animals to the animators and sending artists across the globe to research environments before recreating them in the movies. Take Up as an example, where the filmmakers traveled to the Venezuelan mountains to construct Paradise Falls. For New York City in Soul, the team didn’t just visit Queens, but also many jazz clubs, public schools, and barbershops to capture the feel. During Brave, several trips were made to Scotland to study cliffs and other environmental features. The Monsters University campus drew inspiration from real universities like Harvard, MIT, and UC Berkeley, and Ratatouille brought the filmmakers to Paris. All that research pays off in stunning-looking feature films.
