Animation Reel for Disney Effects Animator Joshua Meador

Joshua Meador (1911-1965) was an Effects Animator for Disney during the Golden Age of Animation, who created many effects for film classics like Fantasia, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. After graduating from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1935 he went to work for Disney in California. This was during the great depression and he was thankful for getting the opportunity.

Disney was a pioneer in the field of special effects, and also made some epic live-action spectacles. Meador contributed to many of these as well as the studio's animated features, and he was part of the team that won a special effects Academy Award for Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

The work he was most proud of creating was the water effects in Cinderella, Bambi and the fire and mud scenes in the Rite of Spring in Fantasia.

Though Meador enjoyed his day job at Disney, his true passion in life was landscape painting. He did some notable commissioned artwork for Vandenburg Air Force Base at the beginning of the space race and a painting for President Lyndon B. Johnson while in office. At the time of his death he had been commissioned by NASA to go aboard an aircraft carrier and paint the returning Apollo astronauts, but sadly he didn't live to complete the mission.
