Creating light streaking effect in maya?

Hi,

I'm trying to create a light streaking effect like this:

http://www.popgadget.net/images/adidas_polar.jpg

But instead of the light coming from the movement of a body I want the streaks to be self contained and able to fly around a building, down corridors etc and eventually form up to create a kind of spherical logo made from these different colored light streaks. Does anyone have any hints or tips on how I might go about creating this kind of thing?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

particles moving along a curve

i would help you more, but right now i can't quite remember how you get particles to emit and follow a curve, and i dont have Maya where i am at the moment

change the shader of the particles too, so they have that sort of glow you're after

Unfortunately I dont have after effects, so would like a way to produce this effect within maya.

Thanks for the suggestions, I found a tutorial in an old issue of 3D World that uses some custom scripting and glowing animated extrudes, looks very cool.

Hey what issue of 3D world did you find that in?

Hey, it was in issue 70 of 3dworld
