now i have only 300$ so i'm going for Core 2 Quad
if you are going for a cheap process get the q8400 its about 200bucks and the remaining on an extra 2gb ram stick

ColdWave 06-07-2010 05:28 PM

I found on ebay : Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 Yorkfield 2.5GHz 6MB L2 Cache L for 160$ bucks
And i can get 2 GB of ram so i'll have 1+2GB = 3GB

that's good ?

gster123 06-07-2010 05:49 PM

Wheres the 3 gig coming from? If its 1 gig from your old PC, yor best of checkingthat its compatable with the new motherboard, if your current PC is quite old then it probably wont work.

ColdWave 06-07-2010 06:01 PM

It supports 4GB of ram.
I have 1 , and i'll buy +2GB.
1 GB on single Chip + 2GB on single chip

I have 2 DDR2 slots...

gster123 06-07-2010 07:10 PM

Yes but the 1 gig stick that you have may not be compatable with the motherboard that your getting, if the processor is a different family, i.e a pentium 4 to a quad core, then there is probably a massive difference in speed and technology.

If you mean that your getting the 1 gig machine and then buying 2 gig extra, again amke sure that the memory is compatable, mathcing memory speeds to the motherboard (and each others) gives a big perfomance boost.

Also if your getting PC with 4 DIMM slots then you may have 4 DDR2 slots so you have 2 pairs in dual channel.

ColdWave 06-07-2010 07:13 PM

I already have motherboard and everything i'm just buying a CPU and RAm..

I have Foxconn G31MX , and it has
2x 240 pin DIMM slots...

gster123 06-07-2010 08:50 PM

You will get more of a performance boost matching the 2 ram sticks rarther then sticking a 2 gig and a 1 gig in there.

I would get 2 matched RAM sticks rarther than mixing them.

Sorry I thought you had more DIMM slots than 2.

hey guys just checking the core i7, what im not understanding is whether they are 8 processors or is it four processors with hyper threading and what kind of processors do Apex boxx machines use

gster123 09-07-2010 06:51 AM

I'm not too sure if Boxx still do the APEX systems, when they did they ran with 6 core AMD processors as they were before the intel processors.

The i7's run with 4 actual cores but with hyperthreading they have 4 extra virtual cores making it 8 cores that the OS uses.

Everything is good except the videocard i don't have a clue about those cards... ??

i5- 430m, 4GB DDR3 will do a very good job for my CG work.

I have about 600$ so i can afford it..

I'm negative about the video card @ the mo ...
And the Gateway are not so good laptops but better than Acer

gster123 10-08-2010 07:17 AM

murambi 10-08-2010 01:49 PM

ColdWave 10-08-2010 11:27 PM

Suggestions for laptop for about 600$ - 650 $ which can be useful :?

gster123 11-08-2010 08:32 AM

I think that you will struggle with that budget for something to run Maya well.

Maybe look into a second hand.

murambi 12-08-2010 12:36 AM

i think the laptop you suggested is pretty good provided you can change the gpu later on with a second hand gpu for about 60usd

anyone know where i can get cheap ddr2 ram it seems to have really sky rocketed back here home
