Hello!
Yeah, cool, my first competition. Hope i am not too bad ;) Unfortunately my room is quite complex and my desk messy ... so i need to clean up ;) here is what i have done of my room so far.. one Question: What settings do i need in maya to make realistic shadow through a colored semi-transparend surface ? are there any tut´s ? Thanks Train |
Yo dude, I think in the first round you only have to do you desk, my suggest would be, get you desk the way you want it FIRST, and if you have time, add the rest of the room.
|
i finished the room 80% now ... and i think my desk won´t look nice without surrounding ... when i get all the rubbish off the desk it won´t be too hard.
But thanks for your tip! |

Hey, that turned out pretty good, shame it doesn't give you any marks :)
|
Nice work. The competition is decided by people voting for your model so it may well get you that extra something. So you cannot really say it won't get any marks.

I agree with Witchy.
Good move Train! |
Hello!
Thanks, that is really motivating ! Just one problem is still bothering me: (no don´t think i didn´t try it ;)) Raytracing: I need / want the colored shadow of a semi-transparent surface with an file-texture. the shadow should be like a projection of the surface on the ground, i guess you know what i mean. i thought it was simple: - material with texture as color-chanel, transparency: 50% - light with raytrace-shadows on - render globals raytracing on - render with Maya S/W and Mental ray result: grey (at least not black) shadow, no colors, no projection. Please help me, it makes me maaad! ;) and saaaad :) Thanks Train (now making the keyboard) desk allready finished, will post pic tonight (in 8-9 hours) |
How about maping the file texture to a spot light and faking the shadow? (light fog and all)
If you get what I mean. |
yes, i thought about that as well, but there MUST be way, maya renders the shadows correctly. if anybody knows how, please send me a maya-file, in which it is done right.
(there must be way, because i read about it in "Jeremy Birn - Lightning and Rendering") |

I´am getting quite used to nurbs now ... well, haven´t got that much modelling experience with high-end ... used Milkshape all the time, then switched to Rhino (without knowing it was using nurbs ;) ) and then came to maya:
learning a lot with that tournament ... got now a bunch of nurbs-modelling tactics :) |
Nice stuff train. Like the look of your monitor, very clean (alot more so than mine). I find polys and subd's more friendly to work with, but I guess I should polish my NURBS skills a bit. :)
