How do you make realistic glass?

Haven't tried it, but would selecting white as the colour and turning up the transparency give me realistic glass ?

Do I have to ray trace to get glass rendered ?

Thanks.

Yeah, that's about right.

Maya comes with a whole host of glass shaders in the library. They are often a good place to start, and then tweak from there.

Why does the sphere look like glass and the plane & cube dosent ?

I want to make a window with realistic glass.

How do I do that ?

Thanks.

Flat Planes are notoriously harder to give good reflection maps to. Without a curviture on the surface, the reflection ends up assinging the same value to the entire plane.

I would recommend adding a very subtle bump map to the plane. Very subtle.
