Yep, unfortuantly!

You will get used to it and find shortcuts and your own workflow, its a bit of a shame that you've got 8.5 as the smooth weights option makes it a lot easier.

Unfortunatly the smooth weights option came along in 2008 (which superseeded 8.5)
