Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

GEOMETRY DILEMMA

Hey,



I am having a tough time trying to get rid of this underlying geometry in this model of an orchid. I modeled the petals as polys, and extruded them slighty so the petals are not paper thin. But when I render it the other side seems to cast shadows inside the shell? How can I fix this, I've tried changing the DMAP resolution and Filter with little difference in results ;[

I dont have a solution to your problem just a work around, first delete that petal then duplicate the opposite petal, then deform it a bit problem gone.

as for the problem
•check the normals
•check to see if there are no extra faces within the petal.

could be a lighting issue, probably the light is stronger on one side of the pedal and not on the other.
