floor tile reflection

hey guys i am having a hard time figuring out how to add an object reflection to my plane.

as you can see in the image attached, i'd like to add a reflection to the plane so the spider bot gets a reflection. is this even possible in maya?

You will need to set up a scene in Maya with a plane and your object on it. Give the plane reflective properties and render it in passes. That way you can bring it in to ps or AE in separate layers and composite that reflection into it.

I have never done this, but I believe this is how it is done. If someone else can chime in and verify I would appreciate it.

i used the maya surface background for the plane to cast the shadow.

i was playing with my render settings and when i chose the mental ray engine i got the reflection but the shadows all fuzzy.

is there a shadow setting for mental ray?
