how Combinding the sword parts

When making the sword how can I make the parts stay together? I selected the 2 parts I wanted to combine (Like the blade and the handle) but it wont do it, any tip?pleasepleaseplease user added image

Figured it out, just had to convert to ploys, Dam Im gooduser added image

you could also select the different parts.. and group them by pressing ctrl+G ..

I think he was wanting to do a Boolean> Union, but the object wasn't made out of Polygons.
