Sun Rays into a room

Hi

How can I force a light fog to appear only through a window and not as if it passes through a wall.

In ****** , Alex creates the effect but never explains.

mayabe you need to add a gobo to your light, that will give it a square shape. But thinking about it the fog shouldnt really go through the wall. Is it the fog or the light that is passing through?

I have had many trials and always the light and fog were entering as if there was no wall.

I will render the current scene and post it her.

Here is my image - I tried using barn doors and a gobo and all sorts of tweaks but alas - nothing works

I read that in MR there is TRANSMAT and participating media - but there are no explications regarding how exactly I use them.

Forgot to mention I was using Depth Map Shadows

And the ****** effect was done prior to Mental Ray

Here is a file of what I was talking about. check out all the connections that are being made. There is a box that contains the fog area. Mess around with the parti volume settings. I think this should help you. It was originally done in Maya 5. I just had it laying around
