Man shape tutorial

I've downloaded the "Simple Man Shape" tutorial.
and i reached the point where you have to give the body some width... But the problem is the instead of this:

... im using Maya 6.0... PLZ help!!

theres an option called "keep faces together" it needs to be on - sorry about that
