Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Aug/Sept - Noob - Frozen Spirit

Hi I reged a while ago but didn't do anything with it.


I'd like to join this comp. I hope it will be done in time.

I haven't got the skillz of the others, but this will be a good lesson for me.

I draw a picture of what I'd like to make.

it will be a lazy dino. who has a big belly. and a rat's tail.

hope this will be good enough for the competition.

thnx guyz, I'm gonna update it regulary with some wips.

here is the first don't have the time to go further.

all will be moddeled in polygon [boxmoddeling] and converted to subdiv.

thanx meshue, I hope I see it finished too user added image

but first got to solve this problem, maybe you guys know what to do.

I want to make the mouth, and I selected some faces and extracted them.
this goes well untill I want to rotate the lower part. It gets all
funky. tryd to change the pivot but it still doesen't work.

anyone got an idea what is going on?
...or knows a better way to get the same result?

Did you try to delete the history?

Maybe you should check out Kurt's dog tutorial part one. It shows how to make a mouth just like this in NURBS. Then he coverts it to polys in part 2.

you could use a deformer, or MAYBE an easier option is to convert to sub's and move a couple of edges.

is the top and bottom 2 piece construcion, it looks like from a previous image you have 1 piece, if so you could delete some faces, then try, if i can dig it out i may have an earlier version of my croc where i was a the same stage ill post it up here and you can have a look.
