skinPercent Output Issue

Would anyone happen to know why when querying the weight value of a joint at a specified vert it is returning to me only a 1 or a 0, no decimal number? I'm basing my line of code off the example

// Get the weight of cv[100] corresponding to joint3

skinPercent -t joint3 -q skinCluster1 shape.cv[100]

in the help docs. Since I seem to be receiving and int rather than a decimal float my script cannot function correctly. Any ideas on what is going on here, or how to get around it? Thanks.
