Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

This is my first time entering a competition user added image
I don't have a scanner, or else I would display my idea here, so I'll just explain what it is.
It's going to be a small cellar with an empty cage in the corner. I'll be adding some objects to make it look really forgotten.

Made some improvements on the cage. Added a door, just in case someone "wants to go inside". user added image

Made a minor object: A wicker basket.
Yes, I know. Bump mapping is terrible. But it won't be seen up-close so I don't want to make it perfect user added image

Final image for tonight. I'm really tired, so it looks pretty bad. Will continue W.I.P tomorrow. It's the stairs to the next floor.

Here's more progress. I added a pipe on the wall by using paint effects. I'm thinking it should be a duct instead though. This isn't what the lighting will be like, though. I'm going to aim for something much darker.

(The Maya Mountain's actually talking to me!)
Thanks Mtmckinley. Added some more stuff. Rearranged the baskets and put a knocked-over chair there. Added 2 bookcases.

How about putting a corpse somewhere?(I was about to suggest you to place a skeleton in the cage, but modeling one is way too hard)And better, making the room smaller!!

I think the stairs may need to be slightly smaller. Itll make the cage look bigger, and the chair looks too small to me. Other than that I agree with everyone else, great start.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Total Rookie: Yes after you posted that, I noticed it too. It did look a little spacious. I decreased the size of the room and made it look more cluttered. user added image

Phynix: I agree, the stairs were a little big. I decreased the size and brought it nearer the cage slightly. As for the chair, it looks a little small because of its angle. I'll move it around, though. user added image

Here's some more progress of what I have so far.
