Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

shouldnt there be two joints after the knuckle?
or do you mean that by the root being the knuckle and the other joints being along the phalanges?

looking good either way user added image

EDIT: scrub that, its just the angle in the picture that confused me user added image

Yeah, it needs a finger tip joint unless this mech hand was designed not to have one. Very nice detail though, keep it up.

I still have to work on the swivel part of the finger, but I think I know what to do. Here is how the finger would bend. I may change some of the proportions though.

Almost done with the hand. It has been a pretty slow process.

Looking good user added image

You'll probably want to resize the middle (and maybe the end) lengths of the fingers as each is approximately 0.6 the length of the predecessor.

Nice information. I am not sure if I want to make the hand exactly like a human hand (proportionally) because a machanical hand would move differently anyway, but I am still playing around with things. I'm glad someone is checking out my thread.

Heh, that middle joint being so short was making me think it had no fingertip joint. Anyway, wether or not it looks like a human hand, it still looks pretty cool. Cant wait to see the finished product! :bandit:

more pictures. This hand is taking quite long without a detailed design beforehand, bc I am trying to make it workable.

I plan on making the entire model pretty detailed. I hope I find time to make it really nice.
