Anime using 3D?

Anime: Concept to Reality is DVD and shows you how to create anime using 3D animation techniques.user added image

Anime: Concept to Reality introduces the exciting world of do-it-yourself computer animation. It includes two animated short features, 'Understanding Chaos' and 'Shadowskin' and also inludes a 20 minute 'How-To' segment which will show viewers how they can create their own anime from start to finsh, including character design, 3D imaging and rendering, voice over and music creation, and editing. All with equipment and software that is affordable and easy to use

I wonder if this is possible in Maya...

Thats cool, but tutorials cover mostly modeling. I want my characters to look like 2D anime.

OK. Look into the Toon Shader in Maya 7 and or creating your own custom toon shaders to give the 2D effect your looking for.

I don't know wether Maya is for anime. Its more for realistic stuff. I think e-on software has this app just for anime.

Well Maya does a lot of things. I've never heard of anime studios using it though. Can someone enlighten me on this?

Well, anime is 2D. They are probably just toned in Photoshop.

Hey this just reminded me of Skyland by Mathew Delaporte - excuse my spelling. The backgrounds and objects are realistic 3D while the characters are shaded like cartoons. It has a sort of lame story in my opinion, but then, its a kids show, so I watch it to see the 3D. Btw, the Maya Vector renderer only outputs to flash right?

A friend and I are actually trying this out and seeing what happens. We're taking another anime and doing a fanwork to see what we can come up with.

So far, the modeling has come around nicely.
