Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Hi Mat,

Dont forget that system updates will dump lots of crap onto your system. Also you might be running system restore and it might use some up.
Then the rest is either temp files (look on the net for info on how to check what is ok to delete) or windows bloat - the more they have to play with the less they optimise.

Like mike says with the .jpg files you can save as progressive and standard? and these can affect what can be used/read in various programs.

Cheers Si,

I had a feeling it could be vista making back-up's of everything that I put on the computer and whatever it downloads itself, I'll have to read the manual I guess!! I never had this bother with XP!

How's your boid project going?

Take it easy,

Mat.

Ha ha,

I've done it!!!

It was the save and restore thing which was digesting my HD at a rate of knots but I found this site......

Is Vista Eating Up Your Hard Drive?

which gave me a quick fix.

It turns out that 39Gig of my hard drive was being saved for the restore function of Vista, how thoughtful!! anyway after following the instructions on the aforementioned site it has been lowered to 2Gig which I don't think is too unreasonable.

After running Tune Up Utilities again my hard drive now shows 210.74GB available instead of 184GB (I've put a bit more onto the computer today!!) as it stated before hand.

Well I hope that someone else gets some use from this link and that I'm, not just a rambling idiot that's drank a bottle of red wine!

Cheers,

Mat (hic).

hehe, glad you figured that one out mat user added image
I usually have the following method:
- optimised system restore only running on the windows installation partition. All other stuff is on a different partition or drive that is backed up regularly.
I really should ghost the windows installation to speed up recovery times but never seem to get around to it.

the boids stuff is going ok (between a new 10week group project sprint and having to hand a report in)
I'm playing with particles and curves (later surfaces) to simulate traffic flow for the animation. At present it'll be single lanes but later it'll be multi lane traffic *hopefully* with obstacle avoidance and lane changing. Saying that, at the current rate the animation progress might suffer so that the technical side gets done...
