New Maya books; which should I get?

Hello all,
I need some advice on purchasing a new Maya book.

There are a few coming out soon next week.

I'm thinking of getting either

Maya 4.5 fundamentals
https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...01608?v=glance

Or Maya Savvy.
https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846

Which would you recommend for intermediate use.. in all areas of Maya ex. Modeling, texturing, rendering, UI tips and production work flow.. Rigging books and animation I have already, so not as important.

Thanks for the help.
God Bless,
George

Welcome to Simply Maya GCastro! I don't have either one of the books, so I can't really give you my opinion. I say - Get them both!

Thanks Darkware!

You know you're right, these books don't come out for a week and half. So let's try this. Let's look at these books'/authors' previous releases.

I'm guessing they'd be the same, just updated to maya 4.5.

so there's a fundamentals 4.0 book that's been out a while by same authors
https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846

and Maya Savvy is the next installement from Mastering Maya guys. here's that book.

https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

Which would you say, if you have these books, is more geared towards intermediate or is just plain better?

According to my budget, I can only afford one at the moment.
Thanks,
George

My bet right now is on Maya Savvy. Based on the 2 previous versions of the books, the Maya Fundamentals book is good for getting started and covering a little bit about most features in Maya, but the Mastering Maya series is great for in-depth coverage on just about everything. There's a good reason the Maya Savvy book is going to be over 800 pages long. Maya Savvy is probably going to be a better buy for intermediate level users.
