theres a lot of things people could do back then but they couldnt because the technology wasn't good enough or wasnt cheap enough to be commercially viable

But there were lots of machines with multiple CPUs back then. And the software for them was able to use all the multiple CPUs too. So much for that "yesterday's supercomputer is today's PC" saying.

i know your alredy geting to computer, just incase your thinking of an upgrade i must warn you. you have a sli motherboard i see, but one thing you may not no is that sli mother boards are ment to be for multiple cards and do not work great with just the single. also if you are thinking of geting a new card to go with it DONT, it oftain says in small print to get the multiple card from the same batch, now nether ati or nividia say this is nessesary but there have been instances where they dont work very effeincelty together or dont work atall if they are from differnt batches so always order them at the same time.

depends on whether or not you want a 64bit OS

vista64 > xp64
xp > vista

you catch my drift?

i'm not sure what problems there are with vista other than usability issues, memory issues aren't really a problem, since memory is pretty cheap these days.
you wont be able to find a lot of things in vista (assuming you knew where a lot of things were) and i think a few programs stop working if you turn aero off (go figure....)

alternatively you could wait for windows 7, i dont know when it's due for release

maya2008 runs fine on both, but my bet is, unless you have lots of ram i would stick with XP

but after the initial kick in the ball from vista's interface it's not soooo bad... although a lot of things i dont think i'll ever get used to...
