Thanks guys, that should be a big help. I think I will start out with the dog, after I try something simple like the bouncing ball.

Thanks again.

the quick time clips that appear when you start up maya are really useful

oh and the modelling menu set has been split into polygons and surfaces menu set

i know you haven't asked about that but you will soon...

REALLY good points Chironeuser added image

Speaking of the modeling meu set:

In maya v8+ the "create polygon" tool has been moved to the "Polygons" menu set after the "Modeling" menu set was split into two menus: Polygons & Surfaces.

It now resides in the Polygons menu under the Mesh tabuser added image

Thank you.

How do I load a WIP for review?

I have a project that I just couldn't let alone.
Any ideas on animating a scorpion?

hmm?
you want to post a WIP?

be ready to post screen captures, screen captures with wireframe on shaded mode active, and renders

as for you scorpian... i'm not going to answer this is detail because it would take a tutorial on rigging to actually give you an idea of how to do it
just bind the mesh to a skeleton. there are a lot of rigging tutorials out there, you dont have to find a specific one for scorpians provided you can apply the techniques and principles in one tutorial to your own work on a different model

as for changing the pic under your name....
click "user control panel" up the top there
then click "edit options"
then scroll to the bottom (or just hit the end key (i assume you're using windows)) and hit "change avatar"
