hello. i've found a little tutorial in web, which shows, how to model a human hand. first with rough poly model, which is then converted into subdiv. this convertion doesnt work by me. the converted model has the same amount of faces as poly model.

Are you sure that it is being converted properly? Also sometimes you may have 'Keep original' marked and your actual sub-div version in hiding beneath it...

When you go Modify>Convert>Poly to Subdiv, do you get an error that comes up at the bottom right of your screen saying ' // Error: Command polyToSubdiv failed. Open Script Editor for details. // '?

no, no error messages. there's three pictures. first is the object after converting, done by me; second is the source object; and third is the picture from tutorial.

That looks right to me; in other words it was successfully converted to subdiv. You can change the division level after converting, or even change the division level for parts of the object. Your geometry is a little different, so you're not going to get exactly the same result, but I would just carry on with the tutorial and see where it gets you.

Oops, my mistake. I see subdiv keeps the same amount of faces.
