Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Older tutorial question

Hi-

I am a rather new user to Maya (coming from C4D), but I just completed a "production based" online course in Maya 2012, so I have a good grip on the basics.

I am quite interested in purchasing the Apache helicopter tutorial, but was curious as to wether I will be able to adequately follow along with the older version used. (Maya 6, I believe)

Thanks for any input, as well as for this awesome collection of resources!

Sure you'll be able to follow it nothing much changed apart from a few menu positions.

I'll add a credit to your account you can download the first part on us and judge for yourself

Thanks so much- i'll get to it right away, and most likely purchase the rest once I get going. Looking forward to diving into this monster project!

It is a monster project indeed, just watching it took me ages but it's a great project which is why it's still on the site even though it's from Maya 6. Here's a WIP from someone who followed it a year ago

The downside for this tutorial would be that the video and audio quality wouldn't be as good as for newer stuff, but I think you can learn tons from it if you can live with that user added image

Thanks so much- seeing that just makes me that much more excited to get started.

ONE more question, and this may be my "noob-ness" showing... I don't see the .MEL scripts in the extras folder referenced in the beginning of the video (when setting up the shelfs before beginning) .

Am I missing something, or are they no longer needed?

Thanks again-

Not really needed as you probably know you can now smooth with the 3 key

The replanes mel script can be had here

BTW that's an upgraded version that should work for Maya 2011 and 2012 but again not really essential

Hope that helps.
Dave

Got it- thanks again. I should be done with the first chapter in a bit, so I'll be purchasing the rest and be attempting this monster soon enough!

Good luck with the Apache! Post up in the work in progress forum if you need some motivation along the way, it's always fun to see Apaches.

Cheers,
Nilla
