Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Alienware uses a desktop CPU so the battery life is kindo of LOW!!!

I assume the point of a laptop is to be portable. Alienware is a beast. If you buy a heavylaptop to stay in one place then might as well buy a much more powerfull desktop. Then again what do I know :-.)

Yep the ballpark is lot of dollars :-) They ain't cheap. I guess the Toshiba is quite good bang for the money. I tell you the screen on it is AWESOME!!! There is nothing like it out there.
It's about 5000 Swiss francs. Which is 2900 US dollars. Plus more if you take out better warranty, +gig of ram etc etc. Has a DVD burner as well which is cool.

The Dell M50 is much more expensive......but has the best video card for Maya in a laptop.

You can go to dell.com choose your country> choose the model and then configure one to see how much it will cost.

Blinn i see your budget is 1500. Not much for a descent lappy :o)
I say get a desktop. I am looking at a laptop because I need to maximize my Maya learning time. Then again you might get a descent lappy which will be good enough for generall modelling.

LOL!

I got the Toshiba 5205-S705/ P4 2.4 / 512 ram / Nvidia 64meg card

wish I had more ram and video Ram, but it could be a lot worse!

everything is working sweet, except Maya! I am having trouble transferring my license to this machine, Alais charges $150 US for a new key.... I have been on the phone with them all day. ug!

I'm really happy with the laptop I got from Alienware, all you need is 512Ram in the system and a 128 Video card, with a 2.4 CPU and your ready to do any thing,, and if you contact them and tell them what your looking for,, they workwith you to get you what you want. it Perfect for some one that’s on a budget

I'd go for one of those Tablet PC laptops. The screen can rotate 180 degrees and fold back down. It's also touch screen.

Yeah, but no but yeah but no....
