Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

image 01 the head i created
image 02 the settings when mirroring
image 03 the end result

when i do this with the torso i get the same result

when i create a new polygon sphere the mirror option works as it should be

can anyone explain me what is wrong with the half objects i created

kind regards.....

Uncheck Merge With the Original and see if that helps. You might what to freeze the transformations too.

hi Jr Who.....

thx for your quick reply

when i uncheck "merge with original" it works, but i have to manualy merge all the vertexes

this is what i try to solve cause with this little geometry it still is easy to do, but when the geometry gets more complexed it could become a time consuming issue

so any suggestions are still welcome to solve this.....

Well, before you dupe it over, make sure that all the verts are in the middle. When you merge them, set the merge distance really low (it might taker a couple tries to get it right), then just select ALL the middle vertices and hit merge. Make sure you look around to see if any vertices that you didn't want merged were merged.

Hi again,

i found the answer in the mirror treshold properties at inputs

when i put in 0.001 it works fine

thx for helping
