face when extruding..

I have a copy of a mesh in 2 halves, only when i extrude a face on top, it also makes a face in between. How can i prevent this ?

In the tool options, ensure "keep faces together" is turned on. you will need to redo the extrusion though.

Then I would make sure your vertices are merged together if its still doing that with the keep faces together.

No the vertices are not merged as it is a copy instance, in mirror..
