Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping

what can skeletons bind to?

i have a mesh, it went from nurbs to polys to sub-d and now i need to give it a skeleton...

the skeleton doesn't attach itself to the sub-d though, and when i convert it to nurbs i get all these new nurb pieces that go all funny and attach in unpredictable ways when i sow them together

so what do skeleton's bind to? just nurbs right? how do i put a skeleton into a sub-d model?
