MAYA or XSI

Hi im beginner (i have worked with Cinema4D) and i would like to try anything else. I know that it is forum for MAYA but ...

What is better for modeling render and siply animation? Is better XSI or MAYA? What about render?
Im interrested in polygom modeling, but sometimes i used NURBS.

I've not used XSI, but I can tell you that, all-in-all I have had no problems with Maya.

I think Maya and XSI are pretty comparable when it comes to capability, but from what I've heard from others, Maya is more user-friendly.

your preference.. well, try the XSI free version, check its modelling tools, and check for yourself, from my experience, maya is way faster (workflow) than XSI,, maya rules in modelling tools and in character setup, XSI rules in rendering

but i will be truthful

render: xsi, altho maya 5 is looking very nice for this
modelling-
polys: xsi
subd's: xsi
nurbs: maya
animatin: xsi
dynamics: maya
scripting: maya
texturing: maya
rigging: maya
skinning: xsi

but this is usually up to the user, the above is just the way I see it

I strongly believe you should download both programs educational versions, give a whirl to the lessons and then make up your mind, as replies to this post will only lead to either biased answers or people flaming each other.

I have to say that from all the 3D programs that I've had access to (my dad is a designer) Maya has been the easiest for me to catch onto.

Also, in the version of XSI that I used, it required a ridiculously large (larger than my res. of 1024x768)...which is way too big for me to actually model anything. But the rendering caps are a lot better..your choice but I say maya ^__^

btw, your res is too small... beleive me, you should use like, 1024 x 768, like me user added image

I do use 1024x768...the XSI i was working with required a much larger resolution than that, which to me is ridiculous, no matter how many menus you possible have lol

XSI does use a bigger resolution of 1280x1024 which is very nice user added image lots of space to work

Yeah it's kinda stupid considering 1280x1024 isn't even the correct aspect ration for 99% of monitors...

It should be 1280x960 :p

I've heard that XSI is better... But it seems to me that Maya can do anything XSI can, and I already know (relativley)much about Maya spo no point switching... Not to mention ownign a copy of Maya :p

And yeah, you'll get a biased opinion from an Maya board :p

"Better" is a relative term. It really depends on the type of work you do, how you work, what your job requires, blah blah blah.

Use whatever gets the job done.

haha, d00d i was just being honest instead of giving a biased opinion because im a maya user, i have played with the experience CD and just commenting on what XSI can do, that is all, i prefer maya cos its easier to use, doesnt matter what XSI can do if workflow sucks user added image
