Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Cartoon Duck

This is the first model I have done in Maya after completing the cartoon dog tutorial on this site. Its going to end up being a mexican duck, so still got sombrero, poncho etc to do, but the duck is pretty complete.

Modelled firstly using nurbs, then onto polys, and finally subd's to tweak.

Comments and crits welcome!

hehe! I like it!

But no wings? Will be very easy to animate too.

Glad ya like it!! I dont know where the idea came from, just thought to model a mexican duck one day. My aim is to end up animating him in a wild western type scene.

On with modelling the guns, holsters, poncho, and sombrero now user added image

Yeah I totally agree, the beak was the worst part to model, it took a fair bit of tweaking until I was finally happy with it.

I hope you find the dog tutorial as useful as I did! I found the instructions extremely clear from start to finish and could always follow what they were doing.

Oops sorry for the confusion, I have actually been modelling for roughly 2 years whilst at University but used 3ds Max, although my 3d time was severely limited due to uni work. Having just graduated I have switched to Maya. Some examples of my Max work are:
