8.0 vs. 8.5 on intel mac

ahhhhm I jsut did a comparison between render times in 8 and 8.5 which runs natively on the intel macs. I used a macPro 2.66ghz 2gb ram atiX1900 512mb.
the attached file was rendered in 1280x720 with mental ray using hdri and raytracing. Sample levels were -1 and 1.

8.0 took 16.33min

while it only ever uses 50% of the available processor capacity when its not using batch render.

So to be fair lets say it did it in 8.15min.

Now 8.5 took 2:58min

using all available processor capacity. Which I think is amazing! More then twice as fast. I wonder if the time would even speed up a bit more if it was using batch render.
So yes, speedwise an upgrade makes a hell of a difference.

for three years I was using an ibook g4 900mhz so I know how the dark side looks, I think with your g5 you're still pretty ok.user added image
