Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

March / April - strobe7 - Noob

This will be my first competition, and I have never done anything architectural, so it should be a complete learning experience. I really don't think I am near good enough, but I will try.... nervous I am.

concept soon.

Alpha Concept

Ok, I am thinking of organic pods that will actually be dead aliens in themselves; maybe with bones in the exterior walls, and empty eye sockets, or maybe they will be alive, would be cool to see giant eyes in the side of a pod open up, hmmmmmmmm,
they will be interspersed in living-clumps, connected by energy lines that all connect to a giant ancient skull in the center that houses an unknown energy source in its gaping calcified jaw (maybe solar powered?) that is still flowing through the abandodned podville.... I want to convey that there was an alien race, and then another on top of that one using what they had, and then now THEy are gone as well. I am going to try and convey how they evolved and left the area through what is left behind...................................... I am sure this is WAY overzealous - but I will try...

I disagree, I'm familiar with strobe's current level of noobieness and I think that he should stay in the noob category (well for this challenge at least) it would be more beneficial.

Your design is a good start so far, but it seems a bit shapeless at the moment. YOu need to think about how those tentacles are attached to the main pod. I like the idea of the big eyes and stuff and the dead aliens it could be really cool.

good luck mate.

Thanks for the compliment dirack, and I agree with Pure, I am STILL a noob. Of course the pod I am showing is IN NO WAY close to completion. I was under the impression we are to show the concepts and progress, so I just threw it up with some procedural textures. I have a lot more planned, believe me user added image

OK Pure;

I will post a close-up of the P.O.D. base to show the continuity of the shape for another perspective.
The form is one flowing shape from the bottom, to the tip of the feelers.

- pretty amped about this : )

I have decided that a P.O.D. is a "personal occupancy diode".
tonight : the bones............................................. .
