Giving a plane depth/thickness

Can you help = I've created a basic poly plane and adjusted it's vertices to where i want them (big win) and now, to really get fancy, I'd like to add some depth to this surface I've created. Is this possible?

Let me give an example: I've created a leaf, and want to add some depth to the leaf itself.

ok, select all of the faces making up the leaf. Then set polygons->tool options->Keep Faces Together (on) (this will save you a LOT of trouble I promise).

Then select the faces again, and go to edit polgons->extrude faces and move the face a little bit to get some depth.
