Specular mapping

how do I add my specular map to my object. I know I should know this but I have never textured anything in my life(well, except for my poo flinging monkeys eyepatch).

map it to specular color attribute of a blinn or phong.

or u cud paint a black and white specular map in photoshop and link it to the specularity of ur object
