Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

looks like you're having lots of fun with this user added image

was that a real simulated collision? how did you solve your problem in the end?

Yeah, it was rigid bodies. In hindsight i shouldn't have done it that way because my computer just isnt powerful enough
I never did find out why it was doing any of the things I mentioned, but it all turned out ok on about the 5th render (which at this point a render took all night so its taken me nearly a week just to do this one thing, when the rest of the animation took less than that)

edit: I just rendered the end and i got completely different results again! Im definitely leaving it alone now (on the 3d level)

Hey, your final picture is just cool. My favourite by now.

The music of the video is not.

it looks and sounds more childish than b-movie-ish

not a bad thing, just an observation user added image

@chirone, are you referring to the music, the sound effects or both? (and if you know any good sites to get either then please share)

I agree with the music but I had to make it myself
do you think it might be better without any music?
or do you think i should have more subtle, more orchestral music?

i think what makes it childish is...

the little flip the space ship does at about 0:18, it makes it seem so happy

the techno sounding music (the SFX works) i got nothing against techno it just seems slightly out of place. maybe find some overly dramatic music, something that builds up to a climax before the ship crashes through the title. i'm not sure where you'd find it because i can't think of anything right now

the bright colours (make them more dull? if you have a video post production software you should be able to change it easily, otherwise, by the sounds of things, don't worry about it)

yeah... the whole scene just seems overly happy

but then if that's what makes a b-movie a b-movie then it's all good

but yeah, i'd definately say the techno-ish music makes it seem childish

what version of maya are you using? and how did you do the AO?

hey elephantic - nice job with the movie poster - it's looking really cool - and i think you've pulled off the idea really well. looking forward to watching your video - tho can't right now as i'm stuck at work. user added image

i think your occlusion looks fine - i assume your going to overlay it over a color image in ps - so your probably going to knock it back quite a bit anyway. but if you're not happy, do a quick search for occlusions in tweetytune's threads - i'm pretty sure he went over a decent technique in one of his recent comp entries (maybe even the current one. user added image )

I did the AO using this tutorial- https://www.game-artist.net/forums/sp...hemist101.html
maya 2008
I never actually meant to do that flip, the expression driving the Y value was causing rotation difficulties but i kept it because i kind of liked it

thanks arran, i didnt see your post (must have posted while i was writing) and ill definitely give his thread a look
