how to make a good demo reel?

can anyone tell me how to make a good demo reel?
shall we put our animation inside our demo reel or just still image?

Depends on what your applying for. If you want to be a matte painter then stills. If you want to animate then animations, if you want to light then show different lighting stills/animations that you've done. It really depends on what you want to do.
