Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Maya Edu

Hey all,

I was just wondering where did you guys get your education for moddelling or animation for Maya or any other program? I am just kind of curious because I am heading off to FullSail down in Orlando for a computer animation course in November, so I just was wondering how you all got into the field and whatnot.

I learned 3D mostly on my own and through on-the-job experience. I studied animation when I was in school (way back when). user added image

ditto. I learned the 3D basics at school and the rest on my own through experience and experimentation.

It important to learn the art and not the package. Not every workplace uses Maya, some dont even use commercial packages.

I think one could really benefit from fine arts classes, especially drawing and sculpturing for visualization purposes. The tools of an application aren't the difficult part really....you push, pull, cut, etc. to make the shape you want, but the key is really being able to understand what the end product is supposed to look like.
