This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Here is what I did.

for the water I used a water texture on the bump of a blinn material.

the island is plain old polys and used the artisan brush to sculpt it.

grass is Maya fur. tip and base are dark browns. used artisan brush to control scale and baldness.

tree and flowers are Paint fx

for the birds i found a picture of a flock of geese flying. Adjusted it in Photoshop. Applied the image of the birds to a plain in the background with transparency.

for the sky I used some alpha channel of clouds and applied to a surface shader onto a sphere.

The camera environment is set to and orange color and the sun is a spotlight with a optics on to create the sun glow and the lens flare.

Great work on this one, simple but creative. It also just has a nice feel to it, I love the warm soft colors.
