Converting . MB and .MA to Maya 4 format

hey all.
I have been given a copy of maya4 to learn with and i am doing pretty well for a beginner. I need to know if there is a way of converting the .MB and .MA files to the older format, because maya4 will not read them.

I really need help with this, and i will be gratefull if you could help me.
