well, you can still get Lightscape in the shops...

from what I hear it isn't likely to see any updates, but it's pretty cool for what it does.

...only preparing the models for Lightscape can be a real PITA;
it doesn't accept >4point polys and really doesn't like intersecting/overlapping polys.

oh well, let's just hope it won't be too long before brazil is ported to maya. (we could flood them with email requests user added image )

architecture... stick with cad.. its more precise... maya is too but.. its double-precision graphics/math program so you get yeild better results. If you want it to be easy and you dont care about precision... you can use maya.

Maya can be just as precise as CAD, If it weren´t it would be almost imposible to use the LIVE feature efectively.
For example If you set your units in Cms (or Inches for you english folks), you can get incredibly precise models just by fiddling with the Channel Box.

Maya has everything built in, just a matter of how to use it. (Snap magnets work like wonders also)

You can change your units by going into Preferences, look for Settings ... The one you would change would be the Linear

F1C/P:The default unit for measuring linear values is centimeters
