Looking really nice. I like the color. Could you tell me what properties you used for it? Or send me the shader.

It's just blinn, with reflectivity up and a fractal in the specular channel. Here is the shader if you want to dissect it.

Any particular reason the bevel tool would have this UV issue?
Well, at least I know what to look for now. Thanks urvinism & Mike.

Bevel tool and apend to polygon tool and maybe other tools always do this, so i think you should not care, just map the UVs when you finish modlenig and don't use texture mode until that, that's it.

The cylinders shown will sort of act as shoulder blades. Arms will be added to the little "wings" of each cylinder. Having some mental block on concpets for the torso, and method of locomotion.

leaning toward wheels with outriggers that will dropped down for stability when drilling/chipping, etc. Think of the hydraulic feet on a crane.

as for torso... not a clue yet user added image

Will get more sketches up this weekend.

for this, not much. very loosely following concepts for the arms. More of an idea in my head, which is realized in Maya. mechanical sketching is not my strongest area. I'm much better at drawing people, and cartoons.
