Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

WOW, great work. I like the head alot. I think it would be cool with the fog in a dark damp mine. I hope someday I will be as good as you.

thanks for the positive feedback folks. negative feedback is ok too.

spent most the afternoon getting the set driven keys (SDK) set up on the fist. Attached is the file for fist if anyone wants to disect it. Basically the tools deploy or return home depending on the rotation of fist_group.

saved as .ma for Maya 6. If you want for older version edit the file in an ascii editor as needed.

File Type: ma bot_fist.ma (210.0 KB, 127 views)

bot fist update

Added hoses to the fist, presummably to provide hydraulic fluid to drive the tools. Will add a bit of wiring to the fist then I'll have to call that portion modeled. After the fist will be the chasis that will hold the torso and connect to the legs/wheel supports.

This is never gonna get done on time but I'm learning a lot and thats the important thing user added image

start of a leg

Damn I'm slow. This is the start of a leg, represents almost two hours worth of work, lol. If I go any slower, I'll go back in time user added image

The piston still needs a lot of work and I feel the "thigh" and "shin" surface need some kind of details, but that may come in the texture phase... like I'll get that far. :0

The out side of the "shin" will have a hydraulic foot which will jack the bot of it's tires and provide firm footing while mining. Like the outrigger feet on a crane. Tubing will also run down the legs, havent decide which side yet.

Surfer, Pony,

Thanks for the support.

I've been side tracked the last couple weeks. I got a job teaching an introduction to 3D modeling course and I've been spending most of my "free" time preparing for classes. Getting handouts ready and rehearsing lessons so I don't look like total dork in front of the class. Also getting the hang of Camtasia, so I'll be spending the evening recording NURBS tutorials for my students. Then I have an exam writing conference the first two weeks of May that I have to study up and prepare for.

But I did warn in my first post that I probably wouldn't finish on time user added image

Maybe I can have it move to a WIP thread and plug away at it slowly.

Thanks again for the positive comments and the gentle prod.
